How Using Your Story Will Attract Your Prospects

Everyone loves a good story. There’s a reason companies choose certain keynote speakers to stand on stage and share their experiences. It’s because their story resonates with people. It leaves a lasting impression, an imprint that awakens the soul.

When was the last time you heard someone get on stage and say,

“I have no clue how I got here? I jumped in yesterday and in one week I am a six-figure earner.”

Ummm, like never! And if you are hearing these kinds of stories, they are completely unrealistic. I call this the “hype method”.

Real stories share struggles, hardships, frustrations, standstills and moments of almost giving up. Yet, for some reason, you may be sitting there thinking to yourself,

“I don’t have a story like that. Mine isn’t some grand downhill struggle and uphill battle. Mine is quite boring.”

Sound familiar? Yea, same here… 

For years, 8 to be exact, I had nothing to tell.

I was stuck. I wasn’t moving anywhere in my business. My mind wasn’t in it and I was dealing with more personal situations taking me away from my business. Make sense?

What I didn’t realize is during that entire time my story was being written. I never thought, today, I would be sharing with people how I sat in an industry for over 8 years completely STUCK.

Then one day it was like I woke up. I found my own sense of worth and got my ass to work. I broke through and now I share with people exactly how I did it.

THIS is my story!

Whether you believe it or not, you are writing your very own story at the moment. Every choice and decision you make is another moment you add to the pages you write and someone will relate.

So, how does telling your story help to attract your prospects? 

They begin to know and like you.

Share a little bit about what makes you, you. You can share your experiences, struggles, goals, and failures on your blog or on social media. 

People start following you because they identify with something about who you are. They resonate with your story, your philosophy, or like your personality. 

Perfectly perfect doesn’t connect. Be human!

If people can’t get to know you as a person, they won’t like you that much. If you only show people a super perfect version of yourself then you’re doing yourself a disservice. Your audience won’t be able to connect with you and might even feel intimidated by you.

When you share your life and journey, you begin to attract a similar audience. They begin to relate to you and ultimately like you! 

They begin to trust you.

When you share your story it gives people a clear picture of who you are and what your content is going to be about. When you show up consistently, instead of every once in a while, they begin to trust you. They know you will show up even when you don't want to. That matters!

Ask yourself, “how do I see myself?” and “how do I want others to authentically see me?”

Then ask yourself, “what do I want to communicate to others?”

Are you someone who likes beauty, food, and family? Maybe you want to share it with a sense of humor because you are a lighthearted and fun person.

Regardless of what it is, narrow down how you see yourself and how you want others to see you.
