Has starting a blog as a network marketer crossed your mind lately? Maybe you're at the point in your business where you exhausted your warm market? You're now trying to build and nurture relationships through social media channels and can't find a way to do it without falling back to the spammy sales pitch?

It's not just the 'building relationships' thing. It's also the 'creating content' part for your social media accounts.

You're stuck.

You're frustrated.

But, you refuse to give up!

So, what can you do to attract more people your way? That is the ideal goal, right? Not to chase them, but have them come seeking you out and what you have to offer?

Blogging is where it's at.

I was scared shitless when thinking of taking this on. Even though I come from a family of editors and publishers, the thought of writing myself has never been my strong suit.

I knew I do something though and this was it. I just had to start and in time I would get better. So, that is exactly what I did. And you want to know the best thing I learned in the process?

As a blogger, you do not have to be perfect. In fact, today, you are able to break the rules when it comes to writing. It's totally okay!

As a network marketer, this is one of the best ways you can start offering value, attract people your way, build an email list, and have consistent content to repurpose across multiple platforms.

Here are my 5 tips for starting a blog as a network marketer;

What do you want your blog to be about?

Don't overthink this part. Don't look at what everyone else is blogging about and think you have to do the same thing. Be YOU! Ask yourself, what do you want to blog about?

It can literally be anything – specialized or not.

You can write about fashion, money-saving tips, recipes, motherhood, raising multiples, workout tips, yoga, whatever inspires you. But make sure your topic is something that you are really passionate about.

Blogging about the same thing over and over again will get boring really quickly if you choose a popular direction you are truly NOT passionate about.

Determine your content buckets!

Content buckets” are categories of content that relate to your target audience.

Content buckets should be direct, to the point, and focused. They tell your ideal client, follower, or subscribers what they need to know about you, your business, and what you offer or sell.

Consider thinking about your content buckets and creating 5 areas of interest that describe you as a person.

Why blog about something that isn't related to my business? Because YOU ARE NOT YOUR BUSINESS!

You are you. Your business, product, or service is just something you love and share with people. When you begin sharing more about the things you are passionate about and fuel it with value-focused content, people will be more prone to buy when you mention the product, service, or opportunity you are affiliated with on the side.

Who is your audience?

If there is one thing you should focus as soon as you start your blog is to find your target audience.

Finding your blog audience is a key component to growing your blog in the right direction. Without having a target audience, your blog is just an online personal book. That is quite okay if you want it this way, but not if you are really wanting to scale your blog and business moving forward.

The best way is to create your blog audience avatar. The ideal person you envision reading your blog and becoming a loyal subscriber.

  • Are they male or female?
  • How old are they?
  • Are they single or married?
  • Do they have children?
  • What do they do for a living?
  • What is their household income?
  • Where do they like to shop and what interests them?
  • What are their struggles?

The list can go on and on. However, determining the exact persona of your audience member is essential when it comes to creating the content they will be reading from your blog.

Narrow down your audience with my Traffic Strategy Worksheet below:

Name your blog!

Now what you have narrowed down what it is that you're writing about, it's time to choose a name for your blog. Don't get trigger happy and go with something like, 'A Blog About Dogs'.

I mean, it is straight to the point, but no. Let's take a little more time here. This is a big decision, but you don’t have to lose sleep over it. Take some time to think of something catchy that represents your topic. Remember this is not a book you’re writing – readers won’t stop at the cover and the title.

Select something that sounds right to you – a name that you will be proud to say out loud to family and friends, and potential customers. Think of something short, and easy to remember.

Where will you host your blog?

You've narrowed down your areas of interest, determined your audience, chose the perfect blog name, and now you need to choose the best blog platform. At this stage, the feeling of 'holy shit, this is about to get serious'. Don't psych yourself out! You've got this!

There are a variety of platforms out there for you to start blogging, however, some are better than others. It literally comes down to how much you are wanting to invest in yourself and your business. You can always grow with your blog, so don't stress.

If you just want to start a personal blog with no intention of starting an online business or a career – you can fully utilize free blog sites.

If you plan to get into the blogging world for a long time then I’d recommend using WordPress as an efficient blogging platform. Over 172 million sites are using the WordPress platform. You can start a WordPress site for free, however, the benefits of a paid site way outweigh the freebie. You can see your options and packages here.

Another platform I highly recommend because of its simplicity, drag and drop design dashboard is WIX.
