Maybe you decided to commit to consistent gym visits to shed the 10 lbs you gained over the past few months. Then something happens where your schedule gets disrupted and you have not made it to the gym in 3 days and your motivation to get back is all out of whack. Or maybe you recently opened the doors to a new business venture and for some reason, the past couple of months have slowly been declining in sales and consumer interest. Whatever it is, we all tend to lose motivation from time to time. I am here to tell you, you can get it back!
The only way you will ever truly fail at something is if you allow the negative thinking in your down moment to consume you to the point of not taking action. Walking away from your goals is guaranteed failure. Pushing into them and reigniting the motivation you once felt is what will light the fire under your ass to ultimately achieve them. Here are 5 things you can start doing today to claim back the excitement that will motivate you to just keep swimming. Insert Finding Nemo reference. Yea, those things stick, you know it.Reflect On Your Successes Initially, this may feel like something impossible but stop and think how you have already succeeded by getting to this point already. Have you already lost 1 lb by going to the gym the first week and now can’t find your way back? Be proud of that 1 lb. Keep that damn pound in your mind to get yourself back up to go lose another one. You’ve already done it once, you can do it again.
And what if you just recently open your own business? Be proud of the fact that you are now considered a flipping business owner. Do you know how many people wish they could make the decision to do the same and commit to it? You are already halfway there. You’ve already done it!
As someone who has been a part of the direct selling industry for 10+ years, I know there may be some of you reading this thinking, “yea, easy for you to say, Whitney. I have been with my company now for a year and still have not gotten to the first rank advancement. Where is any success in that?” Well, let me tell you. One, you just like any business owner came up with the funds to open the door to your new business. That is a success. Two, you have attended training’s, learned so much more about the industry you are a part of, more so than you ever knew before. That is a success. You have gained a handful if not more friends since joining your business. That is a success.
“Success” doesn’t always have a dollar amount tied to it ya’ll. Success can be the small wins. We now live in a social media age. Maybe you hit 200 followers or did your first LIVE video when you were scared as shit to press GO. Congratufrickulations! This is a SUCCESS. So start thinking back to all these big wins. You’ve done it, start celebrating yourself again.Set Bigger Goals Why in the hell should I set bigger goals when the whole reason I am here reading this darn blog is that I have lost the motivation to reach my first ones? Well, I am glad you asked and I am here to tell you maybe your last goals were not big enough. Your goals must shift your action into non-negotiable action. I don’t even know if that is a thing, but we’re going to go with it. It sounds right.
I am serious though. Let’s go back to the gym. Remember, you set the goal to lose the 10 lbs? What if you went a step further and entered a local marathon. Maybe you made the jump and went LIVE on your social media account telling all your friends and followers you are setting the goal to lose 10 lbs. Doesn’t seem much different, does it? But it is. Now you have committed to a marathon or even your friends and followers that you are planning on doing this. It is no longer you holding yourself accountable, now you have other people who are holding you accountable too. It makes a world of difference when we think a little bigger and push beyond our comfort zones.Reconnect with Optimism How you perceive what you are doing or are about to do makes a huge difference. The positive and constructive way of looking at things energizes and inspires you. It makes it easier to keep going even when you hit roadblocks.
So ask yourself questions like:
What is one thing that awesome about this situation?
What can I learn from this and what is one opportunity in this situation?
How can I or we solve this and what is the next small step that I or we can take to start doing that?
Writing things down is a way for you to consciously and subconsciously commit and hold yourself accountable. The more we tell ourselves what we want to achieve, the more likely we are to take action. The subconscious is powerful. The thoughts you say out loud are not as powerful as the thoughts you whisper to yourself. Positive affirmations hold their power. By tracking your goals and telling yourself over and over what you want to achieve, eventually, you will manifest them into existence.Focus On The Reward Okay, you may be stuck. You may have done everything you think you can to get to where you need to be but it just isn’t working. When it comes to business though, what if I told you if you just kept doing exactly what you are doing in 5 years you could be making a million dollars annually? Would you still continue doing it, even though right now you don’t see the results you want?
Hell yea you would, who wouldn’t? The reason most people walk away is that they do not see their success soon enough. Why the hell are you giving yourself a timeline? If what you are doing has worked for so many, then what makes you think it won’t for you? May you have to learn new skills. Work things differently or find another approach? Maybe. But who cares. Again, the only way you will ever fail is if you give up.
So, with failure not being an option, what will hitting your goal do for you? Will it bring in more income? Will it make you feel a sense of pride and success for yourself? Will it allow you to pay off your home or donate a lump sum to a charity or church you are involved with? Either way, whatever you can imagine yourself doing once achieving the goal you are going after, how will that make you feel? Truly stop for a moment and imagine yourself already there. Already achieving the goal you had set for yourself. How does it feel?
Don’t allow for that feeling to slip away from your presence!
I honestly could go on and on, and provide you with several other tips to gain back the motivation you lost but let’s start here. These are the 5 key things I encourage you to focus on and practice every single day. It isn’t easy, I get it. It does get easier though and if you are reading this blog then you definitely are the person who has the power to push through this funk. You are strong. You are capable. You are going to reach your goals and you are successful! Now, go get to work!
